Youth data privacy
Most players in a HoopReads game are minors. Here is what HoopReads keeps about them, what it discards, and who can see it.

The short version
- Players don't have HoopReads accounts. Coaches do. HoopReads never collects anything directly from a player.
- For each player, HoopReads stores a jersey number, the name your staff enters or says, and the stats recorded for them.
- Audio is turned into text and then discarded. HoopReads does not save recordings.
- Pictures used to read a roster are not saved either. Only the roster you confirm is kept.
- Only coaches on your team can see your team's data. Nothing about a player appears on a public page.
What HoopReads stores about your players
- Jersey number and name, as your staff types or says them.
- Nicknames your staff adds so HoopReads knows who “Dre” is.
- The stats recorded for each player. Each stat keeps the words that produced it, so a coach can check it and correct it.
- The text of what the statkeeper said during the game, and any notes coaches record.
HoopReads does not ask for or store a player's birth date, address, phone number, email address, school records or photo. Players never use the app.
Players on the other team
When your staff records a player on the other team, HoopReads stores the jersey number and, if someone says or enters it, a name. That roster stays with your team, so it is ready the next time you play that team. It is private to your team. The other program cannot see it, and it never appears on a public page.
What HoopReads does not keep
Audio. When you speak a play, the app sends the audio to a speech-to-text service to turn it into text. HoopReads keeps the text and discards the audio. Recordings are never saved to our servers.
Pictures. When HoopReads reads names and numbers from a picture of a scorebook page, it uses the picture once and does not save it. Only the roster your staff reviews and confirms is kept.
Who can see it
- The head coach who created the team, and the assistant coaches they invite. Managers and statisticians join as assistant coaches.
- No one else. There are no public player profiles, public rosters or leaderboards. HoopReads does not sell this data or use it for advertising.
- Outside services handle data only to do a specific job for HoopReads: speech-to-text and language-model services turn speech into text and stats, and hosting and database providers store it.
Deleting data
When a head coach deletes their HoopReads account, HoopReads deletes every team where they are the sole coach, along with its games, stats, rosters and transcripts. A team that still has other coaches stays with those coaches. You can also email us to ask for deletion. The Privacy Policy has the address.
