Send the link to my phoneIf you are the team manager, the stats are your job, and the hard part is falling behind. A quick turnover, a steal and a foul can all happen while you are still marking the last play. HoopReads is a basketball stat tracker that you keep by voice. Say the play as it happens and keep your eyes on the floor.
Say it like you'd say it on the bench
“James turns it over, foul on James”
- #23 · turnover +1
- #23 · foul +1
“Devin picks his pocket”
- #10 · steal +1
“Carter scored 4”
- #3 · points +4 · needs a pick, not counted yet
One sentence can cover more than one stat. “James turns it over, foul on James” records a turnover and a foul for #23.

Fixing a mistake mid-game
Gave the steal to the wrong player? Say so, or tap the cell in the box score and set the right number. Every stat links back to what you said, so you can show the coach where a number came from.

Around the stats
- Live box score. Player and team totals update as each play lands.
- Corrections with an evidence trail. Fix a stat by voice or by tapping the cell. Every number links back to what was said.
- Assistant-coach access. Invite an assistant or a student manager to the team so someone else can keep the book.
Getting on the team
The coach invites you to the team, and you record into the same team the staff sees. This is how many high school programs split the work.
Roster from a scorebook photo
Take a photo of the scorebook page. HoopReads reads the jersey numbers and names into a review list, and nothing saves until you confirm it. The photo itself is never stored.
What to know first
- HoopReads runs on iPhone. You record from the app during the game.
- You set up the roster first. HoopReads matches what you say to those players by name, nickname or jersey number.
- One play per call works best. Say what happened, not the running total.
- HoopReads keeps your team’s stats. It does not replace the official scorebook kept at the scorer’s table under your state association’s rules.
