Basketball stat tracker for live games

Call out each play as it happens. HoopReads turns it into player stats and a live box score, so you can keep watching the floor.

Track a Game

HoopReads is a stat tracker for whoever keeps the book at a live game. You say what happened in plain basketball language. Each call becomes a stat for the right player, and the box score updates on the spot. You don’t fill in a grid or hunt for a button in the middle of a possession. The voice basketball stat tracker page shows how a spoken call becomes a stat, step by step.

Say it the way you would say it

“Carter scored 4”
  • #3 · points +4 · needs a pick, not counted yet
“assist Carter”
  • #3 · assist +1
“Andre steal”
  • #34 · steal +1

Why live stats are hard

Every play pulls the statkeeper’s eyes off the floor. You find the player, write or tap the stat, then look up again. A fast break can finish in that time. Voice takes those steps away.

Around the stats

  • Live box score. Player and team totals update as each play lands.
  • Corrections with an evidence trail. Fix a stat by voice or by tapping the cell. Every number links back to what was said.
  • Assistant-coach access. Invite an assistant or a student manager to the team so someone else can keep the book.

New to keeping the book? The basketball stats guide explains what each stat means and how statkeepers count it.

Who keeps the book with it

Often a student manager, a statistician or an assistant coach keeps the book, and the coach uses the numbers. HoopReads is built for that handoff. Team managers get to watch the game while they keep it. High school programs get varsity and JV stats from whoever is on the bench. If you keep a paper book now, the basketball scorebook app page compares the two.

Roster from a scorebook photo

Take a photo of the scorebook page. HoopReads reads the jersey numbers and names into a review list, and nothing saves until you confirm it. The photo itself is never stored.

What to know first

  • HoopReads runs on iPhone. You record from the app during the game.
  • You set up the roster first. HoopReads matches what you say to those players by name, nickname or jersey number.
  • One play per call works best. Say what happened, not the running total.
  • HoopReads keeps your team’s stats. It does not replace the official scorebook kept at the scorer’s table under your state association’s rules.

Basketball stats, spoken.
